Mina Mina Jukurrpa - Mitjili Gibson Napanangka

Mina Mina Jukurrpa depicts one of the most important women’s ceremonial narratives of the Western Desert. Mina Mina is a powerful ancestral site associated with Napangardi and Napanangka women, where ancestral beings travelled across Country, creating the land, establishing sacred places and passing on law, knowledge and ceremony.

The painting represents this Country from an aerial perspective, using repeated motifs and rhythmic patterning to trace ancestral movements across the landscape. The surface suggests claypans, soakages and pathways formed during the Mina Mina Dreaming, as well as the ceremonial implements and actions associated with the story. Through layered mark-making, the composition conveys both movement and continuity, reflecting the enduring vitality of the Jukurrpa.
