Dancing Sticks Women Dreaming - Ruth Nangala Jigili

Pamapardu, or Flying Ant Dreaming, tells the story of the purrungu-purrungu, flying ants that emerge from the ground and travel across Country to establish new nests. The ants are found in the Country to the south-west of Yuendumu.

The flying ants travel long distances in search of water, instinctively knowing where it can be found across the landscape. People would watch and follow the movement of the ants, using their knowledge and behaviour as a guide to locate important water sources.

This Dreaming speaks to the deep knowledge of Country passed down through generations, and the close relationship between people, animals and the landscape.
