Untitled (Tingari) - Ronnie Tjampitjinpa

Ronnie Tjampitjinpa's paintings depict the journeys of the Tingari Ancestors, whose travels across the Western Desert shaped the landscape and established the laws, ceremonies and knowledge that continue to guide Pintupi people today. These ancestral journeys connect a vast network of significant sites across Country, each carrying layers of cultural meaning and responsibility.

Rather than illustrating a single event, Ronnie's compositions evoke the rhythm and movement of these epic journeys through finely structured fields of line and geometry. Concentric circles, sweeping paths and repeated motifs represent important sites, waterholes and the tracks linking them, while the remarkable precision of his line work creates a powerful sense of depth and movement across the canvas.

As with many Tingari paintings, elements of the story remain culturally restricted. The painting therefore reveals only those aspects appropriate for public viewing, preserving the deeper ceremonial knowledge held by senior custodians.
