Ngunytjuku Ngurra (Mother's Country) - Nerida Giles

This painting depicts a place near to Tjukurla, Nerida’s mother’s country. She cannot say the name of this place, as it is the place of an important Tjukurpa,where the Porcupine pushed that big Perene lizard out of the way. The Porcupine was really angry, jealous, because the Perene had been loving that Porcupine’s wife. He went looking around for that Perene, found him and pushed him out of the way, blocking his path. The porcupine did not want him to pass though. The porcupine and the perentre became the mountains in this country, they are all here now.
