Muntja Nungurrayi was born near Tobin Lake, with her ancestral lands encompassing the northern reaches of the Canning Stock Route. A distinguished leader and revered authority in women’s law, Nungurrayi began painting in 1986, focusing on the Tingari and dingo Tjukurrpa (creation stories and lore). Her artwork is a powerful testament to her profound understanding of traditional law. She was married to the renowned artist John Mosquito (c.1912-2004).
