Kunamanara & Winparrku - Mitjili Gibson Napanangka

Kunamanara & Winparrku depicts two closely connected sites of profound cultural importance within Mitjili Gibson Napanangka’s Country in the Western Desert. These places are bound through Jukurrpa (Dreaming), the ancestral law that shapes the landscape and governs relationships between people, place and knowledge.

Kunamanara and Winparrku are associated with ancestral journeys that traversed the land, creating water sources, ceremonial grounds and pathways that continue to sustain life and cultural practice today. In this work, Napanangka presents the landscape from an aerial perspective, using repeated forms and finely controlled patterning to map the movement of ancestral beings across Country. The surface pulses with energy, reflecting the enduring presence of these forces beneath the land.
