Anxiety In Middle August - Lorraine Austin

I am painting in the realm of abstraction. My recent paintings are made of fragments, traces, figures and objects. The marks are physical and metaphysical. Spontaneous and sensuous. I make an examination of the relationship between abstraction and figuration. The figurative objects are amphorous and ambiguous. Visually the lines and objects oscillate between representational and non representational. They defy identification and catorization. My paintings are informed by personal experiences and social issues. The fragmented memory of psychological place and a reconstruction of a new life.
