"The Brolga-the good dancer."
"They live on the salt plain which is the swamp in the wet season. You see them flying over Aurukun. They are my grandmother’s totem so I can make them. She came from Knox River south of Aurukun. The brolga dances like us because it feels happy. It’s playing games They lay two eggs in the wet season. To catch them you can spear them with a branch from a tree or a proper spear alongside the swamp. You can throw a spear or a woomera at it to kill it, then you cut it open and cook it in an earth oven. The taste is like bush turkey. The feathers are used for dancing head dresses."
